Day 16: TGIF

Today was another school day. Mercifully, Amelia's class did not have today's scheduled test. We did learn lots of stuff today, though. Andy's class gets a new teach next week and some students will leave next week, so things will get shaken up a bit.

During the coffee break, Amelia scooted to the book store to pick up two things we ordered (another grammar workbook and a tool for learning irregular verbs).

We also had to sort out transport to the train station. We went for calling a cab. Presumably Amelia's German was good enough because the cab showed up! We had a nice conversation in German with the cab driver!

At the train station we met up with Grace (opera singer, Carnegie Mellon) and Jojo (neuroscience, Berkeley) who were going to Berlin for the weekend. We all took the same first train to Stuttgart.

Jojo shared some lovely strawberries.

In Stuttgart we found our train to Heidelberg, a nicer faster train in which we had first class seats. However, the fast train has no openable windows and little air con so we melted all the way to Mannheim.

Mannheim? We weren't supposed to go to Mannheim! For some reason our train did not take the stops in between Stuttgart and Mannheim and chaos ensued in Mannheim as many of us tried to figure out oh ow to go back south/east to Heidelgberg. We managed to find a train that seemed to be going that way and collapsed into some roped off first class seats. We think the problem on the tracks caused total chaos for people trying to get to it from Heidelberg because no one even came through checking tickets.

We found Becky or rather she found us at the train station and showed us to our nearby hotel. Then we had a nice evening stroll.

Heidelberg Press!

Old brewery.

Followed by a lovely dinner.

With dessert.

And some free street entertainment.

On the way back we could see hundreds of bikes parked at the train station.

And then off to bed in an air-conditioned room. Woot!
