Day 31: Day at the Thermalbad

Today we had a lovely lazy day at the spa hotel (Kurhotel) and the hot springs (Thermalbad).  First, we slept 10-11 hours. It was lovely!  Then, downstairs to breakfast before it was too late. Hooray for hot eggs! It is so nice to have something hot at breakfast for a change. Amelia's juice of choice here is grape juice.

Andy goes for the nice bread with cheese and various jams, plus orange juice.

So, it is really rainy today with more rain expected. Here's the rainy view from the from of the hotel down toward Bad Rodach.

We went to the Thermalbad and bought a day pass. We spent 2 hours swimming in about 7 pools. Those aren't all the pools. It's incredible. About half are outside and half are inside and a few are both. They are all at different (posted) temperatures and have various combinations of bubbles, jets, and water features.  We came back to the hotel (50 yards walk at most) and had showers and laid around a bit because it was too late for lunch (lunch ends at 2 just about every where in Germany). We ate some snacks we had left over (M&Ms, gummi bears, etc.) and thought about biking to the town for postcards during a lull in the rain but as we walked out to go to the bikes (which are kept in the hotel's garage) the rain came again, so we went back to the room and relaxed (Amelia napped) until supper time.

We had supper in the hotel restaurant, which is lovely.  Amelia had Wienerschnitzel (veal) with rosted potatoes and cowberry (cranberry) chutney.

Andy had  Rumpsteak Strindberg which turns out to have a backed top made of mustard and onions, with fries and a salad.  It was yummy.

For dessert, Andy had another Maximilians süße Versuchung, which is three kinds of ice-cream and a whole bunch of fruit.

Amelia had warm chocolate crepe with home made white chocolate ice cream (and fruit). It was really as good as it looks. It was fantastic!

After dinner we went back to the Thermalbad. Here are some pictures of the pools.

The two small pools are similar to large hot tub size but they are not hot tubs and don't appear to have jets. One is 15 degrees Celcius (cold!) and one is 30 degrees or so (luke warm).

Through the window are rooms with large therapy pools that are used for actual physical therapy, apparently.

This is the big indoor pool that is about the right depth for regular water aerobics or walking or swimming. It connects outside to a bigger pool with some interesting bubble jets in the middle.

This is the other large indoor pool. It has waterfalls that come on and off, and random bubble jets and places to sit and so forth. Yes, that couple on the left is kissing. I think they were lip locked. The day crowd was mostly older than us but the night crowd was mostly younger and clearly some came for their Saturday night date.  There's a good deal on a ticket for only the last three hours of the day...

Our favorite outdoor pool is probably this one which is a lazy river sort of thing with random bubbly things going on and off. About 10 minutes of every hour it's turned into a speedy river. It's fun!

This is the pano of the out door area.  On the far left is the lazy river. To the right of that is a white umbrella which has two small pools around it for walking in (We really don't get this). One is 15 degrees C (cold) and one is 30 or so.   Beyond that in the distance is the outdoor pool that connects to the first indoor pool photographed. In the middle is the lap pool which is pretty chilly. You MUST keep swimming or you will get cold. It has a little tunnel to come inside without getting out of the pool. The green spaces beyond include water features, lily pads, roses and so forth as well as views of fields and forests and many places to sit.

A pano of our favorite indoor pool It has places to sit with bubbly gets and side jets for massage and water falls and giant bubble things. The blue lights on the right are around the entrance to the sauna (which we didn't do because we don't care to be hot and it's an extra charge).

The Thermalbad also has a bar/canteen with food and drink you can have while still wearing your swimsuit. There's also a nicer restaurant upstairs with a view out over the outdoor pools.

It was a good and relaxing day. We slept very soundly after 4 hours total in the Thermalbad.
